Chespel is played on a 7x7 tactical grid. Each player commands a faction whose units begin off-board and are deployed using cards drawn each turn.
On your turn: draw a card, play up to two cards from your 5-card hand to deploy a unit, equip a unit, or trigger a global action, then move your units and initiate combat. Combat is resolved with opposed d4 rolls modified by unit stats, terrain, and equipment cards.
Win by reducing your opponent's General to zero health. Generals can Awaken mid-battle, a powerful upgrade triggered by a special Awakening card, making them significantly stronger for the rest of the match.
